Fix slow computer problems on Windows
There are many reasons why your computer might be running slow. Over time, regular use of your computer builds up unneeded files and may fragment your hard disk. You may also notice a performance degrade if your computer is infected.
Select one or more of these solutions to improve the performance of your computer.
Make sure that your computer is not infected
To check if your computer is infected, we suggest that you download and run the Norton Power Eraser tool.
Depending on your version of Windows, download one of the following:
- On 64-bit Windows: Norton Power Eraser
- On 32-bit Windows: Norton Power Eraser

Disabled: Prevents the program from launching when your device starts. Select this option for programs that you don't use.
-
Delay: Allows the program to load only after the device startup completes. You can use this option to delay the start of a program when you turn on your computer. The program runs at a later time.
You can use the Launch Delayed Apps option to manually run all the startup programs that you chose to delay.
-
Optimize and defragment your computer disks
