Allow all permissions for your Norton product on macOS
If any permission is needed, the Norton product tutorial appears automatically after opening your Norton product. To allow necessary permissions, follow the steps in the relevant section below:
Allow real-time protection
Granting permission to enable real-time protection lets your Norton product protect your Mac and detect malware in real-time.
macOS 15.x (Sequoia) or later

In the Norton product setup wizard, click Open.

In the Login Items & Extensions window, scroll down to the Endpoint Security Extensions section and next to Norton ,move the slider to turn it on and enable the Norton System Extension option.

When prompted, type your Mac administrator account password, and then click Done.
macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later

Open your Norton device security product.

Click Next and click Open.

In the Security & Privacy window, click the lock icon at the bottom.

When prompted, type your Mac administrator account password and then click Unlock.

Click Allow next to System software from application "Norton" was blocked from loading.
If you do not see the Allow button, then close and reopen the Security & Privacy window to view the Allow button.
The necessary real-time protection permission is granted. The Norton product tutorial prompts you to filter network content to keep you safe while you browse.

In the Norton product setup wizard, click Open.

Click Allow.
If prompted, continue with the steps below to allow Full Disk Access or enable Smart Firewall. Otherwise, click Finish to close the Norton product setup tutorial.
Allow Full Disk Access
Allowing Full Disk Access enables your Norton product to scan your entire Mac for hidden threats.

In the Norton product setup wizard, click Open.

In the Security & Privacy window, click the lock icon at the bottom.

When prompted, type your Mac administrator account password and then click Unlock.

Scroll down and select Full Disk Access in the left panel.

On the right panel, select and enable the Norton option.

In the Norton installer window, click Finish.
Enable Smart Firewall
Allowing Smart Firewall enables your Norton product to control which apps can connect to the internet.

In the Norton product setup wizard, next to Enable Smart Firewall, move the slider to enable Smart Firewall

When prompted, type your Mac administrator account password and then click Ok.
Allow Location Services
Grant permission to enable Location Services for your Norton product to analyze your network's safety.
This permission appears only on macOS Sonoma.

In the Norton product setup wizard, click Open.

In the Security & Privacy window, click the lock icon at the bottom.

When prompted, type your Mac administrator account password and then click Unlock.

Enable the toggle switch next to Location Services.

Enable the toggle switch next to Norton.
Allow update certificate settings to help stop browser threats
Adding Norton certificates allows the Norton product to stop browser threats. If you are prompted to add Norton certificates to the Keychain, follow the steps below:

In the Norton product setup wizard, click Open.

When prompted, type your Mac administrator account password, and then click Update Settings.
