Configure Norton device security advanced settings
Computer, Network, and Web security options protect against a range of threats. For best results, you should keep all of the Advanced settings turned on.
Configure advanced settings
-
Open your Norton device security product.
If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.
-
On the Norton product main window, double-click Security and then click Advanced.
-
In the Advanced window, check that the following features are turned on.
-
Auto-Protect
Runs in the background while you work to continuously scan for viruses and other threats. If you turn off Auto-Protect, Norton automatically turns off Behavioral Protection and Download Intelligence.
-
Behavioral Protection
Provides real-time protection against threats and proactively detects unknown security risks. You cannot access this option when Auto-Protect is turned off.
-
Smart Firewall
Monitors network activities between your computer and other computers and blocks unauthorized traffic.
-
Intrusion Prevention
Scans network traffic for the attack signatures that attempt to exploit a vulnerability in your operating system or in an installed program.
-
Email Protection
Blocks threats from email attachments. Your Norton service automatically configures your email to protect against viruses and other security threats.
-
Browser Protection
Blocks malware that attempts to exploit vulnerabilities in your web browser. It secures your sensitive information and prevents attackers from accessing your system.
-
Download Intelligence
Protects you from unsafe files that you download from your browser. It lets you know if a downloaded file is safe to open or install. You cannot access this option when Auto-Protect is turned off.
