Report the death of someone on your account
We are sorry to hear of your loss. To remove a member from your account, you need to contact Member Services & Support.
Keep in mind that while Norton is unable to help protect an individual's information after they have passed, there are still measures you can take to safeguard their identity.
For United States
We recommend contacting the Social Security Administration, the IRS, and the three major credit bureaus to report this passing.
In most cases, the funeral director will report the passing to the Social Security Administration. You may visit their official website at www.socialsecurity.gov or contact them via phone.
To obtain instructions on how to file a tax return on behalf of the deceased, please visit the Internal Revenue Service's official website at www.irs.gov or you may contact them via phone.
Finally, we strongly recommend contacting all three of the credit bureaus to have the deceased's credit file closed. Doing so will help prevent their information from being used to open new credit-based accounts. This should also help to stop pre-approved credit card mail. The credit bureaus may require photocopy of the death certificate.
To obtain up-to-date credit bureau contact information, visit:
- For Experian: www.experian.com
- For Equifax: www.equifax.com
- For Transunion: www.transunion.com
For Canada
We recommend that you contact Service Canada and the two major credit bureaus to report this passing. You may need to provide a copy of the death certificate and the Social Insurance Number of the deceased person.
Reporting to the credit bureaus is essential so that new credit is not fraudulently opened in the name of the deceased person. For more information on the reporting process, use the below links:
