Help protect against identity theft using Identity Lock

Identity Lock gives you the ability to lock and unlock your TransUnion credit file in a single click. This helps protect you against identity thieves from opening credit accounts like loans and credit cards in your name. For more information, read the Identity Theft article

When you lock your credit file, you help block new creditors and lenders from accessing it, which may serve as a critical step in protect against an identity thief from applying for credit in your name.^* However, your current lenders can still access your credit file. If you need to apply for a new account like a credit card, loan, or phone, you can unlock to allow access for a credit inquiry.

• You can't lock your TransUnion credit file if you've placed a security freeze on the credit file.

• The TransUnion credit lock only covers one of the three credit bureaus. We recommend that you freeze your credit file with the other two bureaus to enhance your protection.

• If you cancel or downgrade your subscription, your locked TransUnion credit file will be unlocked, and it will be viewable by information requestors again.

• For errors encountered while trying to lock your TransUnion credit file, you can contact the TransUnion Consumer Relations team at (800) 916-8800, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, and provide the error code.

Credit Freeze for minors

If you are the parent or legal guardian of a child under 16, you can place a security freeze on their credit file. A credit report will be created and then frozen for your child. You need to provide a proof of your identity and theirs along with proof that you are the parent or legal guardian.

^*Locking or unlocking your credit file does not affect your credit score and does not stop all companies and agencies from pulling your credit file.
