Error: "This product is not compatible with this computer's current operating system..." when installing Norton

You may also see the error "Norton product will not install in compatibility mode. Close this window and restart the installer in normal mode." These errors can appear if Norton is not compatible with your operating system or if you are running the installer in the compatibility mode.

Check Norton product compatibility

The Norton product that you want to install is compatible only with the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows 11

  • Microsoft Windows® 10#

  • Microsoft Windows 8/8.1 or later (all versions).

  • Microsoft Windows 7 (all versions) with Service Pack 1 or later

#Norton 360 is compatible with Windows 11/10 in S mode and offers Norton Security Universal Windows Platform app.

Run Windows updates

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    If you receive the User Account Control prompt, click Yes or Continue.

  3. In the left pane, click Check for updates.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Run Windows updates on Windows 11/10

  1. Click the start menu and in the search box type the following text.

    Windows Update
  2. Select Windows Update Settings.

  3. Click Install now.

Run the installer in normal mode

Make sure that you are not running the Norton installer in the compatibility mode.

  1. Right-click the Norton install file that you have downloaded, and click Properties.

  2. On the Compatibility tab, under Compatibility mode, uncheck Run this program in compatibility mode for.

  3. Install your Norton product.
